yellow dock - Rumex crispus

yellowdock

how to grow:

We already had yellow dock growing in our garden all by itself. They can be grown from seeds. They are perennials and are hardy in US zones 4-18.

medicinal properties:

Yellow dock is a good cleaner of toxins in the body. The root that looks a bit like a carrot is that part that is used. Yellow dock can be used both as a tea and as a bath. It is usually used for inflammatory skin diseases as it removes the toxins from the body and eases inflamation. It is also a good source of iron.
Yellow dock can also help with reducing indigestion and heartburn by neutralizing stomach acid.

cautions and possible side effects:

People taking drugs to lower blood calcium and diuretics should not take yellow dock.
Some people might show some allergic reaction to yellow dock.
You can drink the root as a tea or use as a poultice but yellow dock should not be eaten raw as it can cause nausea, heart problems or trouble breathing.
As I couldn't find any studies on yellow dock taken during pregnancy and breast feeding you should be careful in this case.
