horsetail (equisetum arvense)

how to grow:
Horsetail likes it wet, they grow best close to a river or stream. As I had fallen in love with them we carefully dig one plant up from a group growing near a small stream and transplanted it into our garden. But unfortunately our garden was too dry so while it came back for a few years it never got as big as those plants growing close to a river and never multiplied. Horsetail has very deep tap roots and in addition to a wet garden you need a plant or root to grow it. It's a very beautiful perennial plant.
medicinal properties:
Horsetail is rich in silica and calcium. Therefore it can stengthen brittle nails and respair skin tissues. It is also very beneficial for your bones.
Horsetail is a great herb for tissue repair and helps stop the bleeding of internal and external wounds.
Horsetail is also good for the lungs and kidneys. It can also reduce inflammation and infection of the urinary tract.
It is usually prepared as a tea from the threads.

cautions and possible side effects:
As almost always when pregnant or breastfeeding be careful and don't use this herb.
