Solar eclipse 2024

An unforgetable event of totality!

On April 8, 2024 we all gathered in our backyard with our solar eclipse glasses, ready to observe how the moon would slowly move to cover the sun. It was my first solar eclipse and I am glad I could watch it. In total the spectacle lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes. The moment of the total eclipse was at 3:27pm.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between the earth and the sun, blocking all or part of the sun's light from reaching the earth. This event can only happen during a new moon phase, when the sun, moon and earth align in a straight line.

We watched as the moon slowly moved and covered more and more of our sun.

In a total solar eclipse the moon completely covers the sun, casting a shadow on earth and turning day into night for a brief period. For a short moment you also notice that it suddenly is colder. A strange feeling somehow and really unforgetable!

After that it soon becomes warmer and brighter again as the moon continues its move and more and more of the sun becomes visible again.

Only a small area of earth, in the path of totality, can see this type of eclipse. We were so happy that this time this small area of earth was where we were!
