Fascinating miracles of nature: Smoke on the water

Here is spectacular display of nature at the start of winter that I wanted to share with you. It happens only a few times every year.
Boiling water in the St-Lawrence river

At the start of the winter we can have arctic air flowing south towards the St-Lawrence River. The water of the river is not yet frozen. When those very cold and dry arctic winds blow over the river then it looks like the water is boiling and steaming. It's like smoke on the water. The water is however not hot at all. The water has a temperature of only 2-4'C but the air is very cold and dry.

Here is a short video and you can watch it via youtube:

Enjoy
